Overview
Join us in the first network meeting for 2024 of the Arts Funders Network.
We are excited to host this meeting for network members to have:
1. An overview of the sector changes initiated by the creation of Creative Australia following the National Cultural Policy- Revive
2. An introduction to Creative Australia’s expanded research remit and discussion on how this may inform our work in philanthropy

Presenters

Dr Georgie McClean - Executive Director of Development and Partnerships, Creative Australia
Dr Georgie McClean is the Executive Director of Development and Partnerships at Creative Australia. She oversees sector engagement, research and professional development and digital culture strategies. She looks for opportunities to extend the public value of the cultural and creative industries with new partners in new ways.
Prior to joining the Creative Australia, Georgie has been a media/ arts leader who has researched and shaped creative industries’ dynamics, programs and policy for 20 years.
Formerly the Acting CEO of AFTRS (the Australian Film, Television and Radio School) where she led Strategy and facilitated new thinking about Australian storytelling, industry practices, innovation and the Creative Economy push. She also headed up Strategy and Communications at Screen Australia, and prior to that, was Manager of Policy and Research at Australia’s multicultural public broadcaster SBS.
With an applied research Doctorate of Cultural Research, a Master of Arts in Communications, an MBA underway and strong practical knowledge of the screen, arts and media industries, Georgie translates between ideas, research and practice.
Georgie has served on several Boards, including Diversity Arts Australia and the Advisory Boards of Queensland University of Technology’s Digital Media Research Centre and Westen Sydney University’s Institute for Culture and Society.

Rebecca Mostyn - Director of Research, Creative Australia
Rebecca Mostyn is Director of Research at Creative Australia, the Australian Government’s arts funding and advisory body. Rebecca is responsible for the delivery of a wide range of research responding to the evolving data and information needs of the creative industries. She has overseen original research and research collaborations ranging from the National Arts Participation Survey and Domestic Arts Tourism: Connecting the country to the Audience Outlook Monitor, the Electorate Profiles and recent editions of the Economic Study of Professional Artists in Australia. Prior to joining the Australia Council in November 2016, Rebecca was Manager of Research and Strategy at Screen Australia, where she managed data collection and analysis, and delivered projects including Seeing Ourselves: Reflections on Diversity in TV Drama, and Screen Currency: Valuing our Screen Industry.
Network Co-chairs

Anna Nieuwenhuysen – Grant Manager, Besen Family Foundation
Anna Nieuwenhuysen is Program Manager at the Besen Family Foundation. She leads the Foundation’s Arts & Culture Program, which supports independent artists and institutions across a diverse range of art forms including, dance, theatre, music, visual arts and community cultural development.
Anna joined the philanthropic sector after an extensive career in the arts across government, commercial and museum art institutions, including collection management at the National Gallery of Victoria in the International Decorative Arts department.
Anna has a Bachelor of Arts (Honours, Art History) from the University of Melbourne and completed her postgraduate studies at Christie’s in London followed by an internship at The Peggy Guggenheim Collection in Venice.
Anna also served as Cultural Adviser to the Australian High Commission in London where she steered the cultural diplomacy strategy to leverage the Australian Government’s international relations and policy priorities.

Louise Joel – Arts Program Manager, The Ian Potter Foundation
Louise Joel is the Arts Program Manager responsible for The Ian Potter Foundation’s Vibrant funding pillar, including The Ian Potter Cultural Trust, The Ian Potter Moving Image Commission, and the Foundation’s Arts program area.
Louise holds a Bachelor of Arts (Art History) from The University of Melbourne, a Master’s degree in Art Business from Sotheby’s Institute of Art, Manchester University (Singapore), and a Masters of Business Administration from The Australian Institute of Business.
Prior to joining the Ian Potter Foundation in July 2022, Louise had worked for private galleries, auction houses, large public museums, in the government sector, and as an independent specialist arts business consultant.
