Overview

Join us at the next session of the Philanthropy Australia Communications Peer Network to hear an important update about the impact of AI on philanthropic communications. Our guest speaker will be Dr Karen Sutherland who will share insights from her new book 'Artificial Intelligence for Strategic Communication' and her consulting work with not-for-profits. Karen's presentation will be followed by time for Q&A and discussion.

Dr Karen Sutherland

Karen is a Senior Lecturer in Public Relations at the University of the Sunshine Coast and a Certified AI Consultant. As Director of Dharana Digital Marketing Agency, Karen specialises in using AI for strategic marketing and communication. Karen has a strong track record of guiding organisations in leveraging AI to enhance efficiency and reduce costs.

 

Her accolades include the 2023 Book Excellence Award in Public Relations and multiple Stevie Awards in 2022. She has designed and delivered training and workshops globally for more than a decade across various sectors such as health, small business, and education. 

 

Karen's research spans AI in strategic communication, B2B relationships, and social media practice. Karen has authored two editions of her book 'Strategic Social Media Management – Theory and Practice' published by Palgrave Macmillan (which has been downloaded more than 160k times) and has featured in top-tier journals and media including ABC News Breakfast, Nine News and the Wall Street Journal. She has been Ticker's AI and social media expert since 2019.

Communications for and about donors is a continuing theme in Sophie’s career. Prior to joining PA, she led communications for the Monash Health Foundation, supporting philanthropy to Victoria’s largest public health service – Monash Health. 

 

 

Sophie’s early career spanned a decade with St Vincent’s Hospital Melbourne in varied marketing, media relations and communications roles. This was followed by 8 years at Monash University working in the Advancement division. While at St Vincent’s, she completed a Master of Marketing at Melbourne Business School.
