Overview

With the result of the election settled, and a new Albanese Government ministry in place, this will be an opportunity for members to hear about PA's policy advocacy priorities over the coming year and this term of Government. There will also be discussion of the consultation regarding proposed changes to the regulatory arrangements for giving (ancillary) funds, including next steps for engaging with this process and shaping PA's response.

This special briefing will provide Impact members with an opportunity to engage with Philanthropy Australia’s (PA) Executive Director of Policy and Sector Development, Krystian Seibert.

There will be opportunities for Q&A following the update.

Ollie Hanson - Director, Engagement (WA/SA) at Philanthropy Australia

Ollie is passionate about leveraging philanthropy to drive positive social impact and leads Philanthropy Australia’s engagement efforts in Western Australia and South Australia.

With over 15 years of experience in the philanthropic sector, Ollie’s career spans major gift fundraising at the University of Melbourne, international grantmaking and partnerships at the Minderoo Foundation, and corporate sustainability at Bankwest.

He is deeply committed to First Nations self-determination and played a pivotal role in establishing the Atlantic Fellows for Social Equity program in 2016, a groundbreaking initiative that fosters Indigenous-led social change across Australia, Aotearoa, and the Pacific Islands.

 

 

Krystian Seibert, Executive Director – Policy and Sector Development - Philanthropy Australia

With extensive experience shaping policy and regulatory frameworks applying to philanthropy and the not-for-profit sector, Krystian previously served as an Associate Commissioner at the Productivity Commission, appointed by the Australian Government to jointly lead a wide-ranging inquiry focused on philanthropy. Prior to this, he was an Industry Fellow at the Centre for Social Impact at Swinburne University of Technology, delivering education programs for the next generation of Australia’s social impact leaders.

In his role as an adviser to a former Assistant Treasurer in the Australian Government, Krystian managed the delivery of major reforms focused on the not-for-profit sector. These included the establishment of Australia’s charities regulator, the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission (ACNC), and the passage of Australia’s first statutory definition of charity, the Charities Act 2013.

Krystian is Chair of Mental Health First Aid International, an Australian charity focused on providing evidence-based mental health first aid training for everyone. He is also a Non-Executive Director of the Consumer Policy Research Centre, and an Adjunct Industry Fellow at the Centre for Social Impact at Swinburne University of Technology.

He has completed a Master’s degree from the London School of Economics and Political Science focusing on regulatory policy, and a Bachelor of Laws and a Bachelor of Commerce (Economics) from Deakin University.
